Our Language Immersion Model
We will develop bilingualism through a Mandarin immersion model where students will be offered a challenging, California Common Core State Standards-aligned curriculum. Children will initially receive more instruction in Mandarin to develop a foundation for speaking and understanding Mandarin. As kids move to higher grades, subjects taught in Mandarin will gradually transfer to English in upper grades.
Immersion education is a proven and effective way for students to learn a second language. Students are taught the same content as their peers in a California public school. The only difference is that the teacher delivers the content in Mandarin so that students can effortlessly pick up the second language. For example, in Kindergarten Social Studies, most public schools focus the content on "My Community" where the students learn about the post office, fire station, and family structure. In an immersion model, students are taught the same content, except that the teacher would communicate with the students in Mandarin while teaching the academic vocabulary in English and Mandarin. As students develop stronger Mandarin listening and speaking skills in the higher grades, more content will be taught only in English.
